Water changes to snow or ice when it’s temperature becomes less than 0 °C or 32 °F. The perfect conditions for snowmaking are very cold temperatures and very little air humidity.

Why would we need to make snow? Snowmaking or the making of artificial snow is costly. Ski resorts are the biggest snowmakers.

Here is a little experiment to demonstrate how snow is formed.

You will need a freezing day of winter, about -25 °C or -13 °F. One pot of boiling water. And a good arm to throw.

Place the water into a container. Go outside and aim as far and as high as you can. Throw the water and see how fast it freezes. That is all you need to make snow, air and water together in a cold environment.

Did you know that you can also build a household snowmaker!
